NEW TECH at ABS Europe 2026: high temperature adhesives and materials for industrial applications
21 September 2026Syensqo has been selected by NOEMI Aerospace as a materials supplier for the development of its new fully electric amphibious aircraft, designed to become the world’s first fully electric amphibious seaplane to achieve certification.
For the aircraft structure, NOEMI Aerospace will use Syensqo’s MTM® 45-1 carbon fiber prepreg, combined with AeroPaste® structural paste adhesive for wing assembly. The combination of the two materials is expected to support the development of lightweight, high-performance composite structures as the aircraft progresses toward certification.
An aircraft designed to carry nine passengers
The project involves a fully electric amphibious aircraft designed to carry up to nine passengers and operate from both conventional runways and water landing surfaces.
In addition to regional transportation, the aircraft is being developed for a range of applications, including cargo transportation, search and rescue operations, and medical evacuation. Its amphibious capability could also provide access to areas where conventional aviation infrastructure is limited.
Composite materials and adhesives for large-scale structures
The selection of Syensqo’s materials reflects the project’s structural requirements, which call for materials capable of combining mechanical performance, weight reduction and manufacturing flexibility.
One of NOEMI Aerospace’s objectives is to manufacture the wing skins and spars as a single 21-meter span, requiring a non-autoclave material with established performance.
According to Simon Bendrey, Chief Engineer at NOEMI Aerospace, MTM 45-1 was selected for its suitability for primary structures and its established qualification and certification pathway for aerospace applications. The material has FAA approval and independently verified NCAMP data.
“With Syensqo’s MTM 45-1, we found a solution that will support our certification approach while helping us achieve the low structural weight required for our first prototype,” said Bendrey.
NOEMI Aerospace will also use Syensqo’s AeroPaste® structural adhesive to assemble the wing components. The adhesive is part of the manufacturer’s approach to achieving the required structural performance while maintaining a manufacturing process suited to large composite components.
The collaboration between NOEMI Aerospace and Syensqo highlights the role that advanced composite materials and structural adhesives can play in the development of a new generation of electric aircraft, where structural weight reduction and efficient composite manufacturing processes are key factors in meeting design objectives.
Industry professionals will meet at ABS Europe 2026 – Adhesives Bonding & Sealants, the first event dedicated to adhesives, glues, sealants, foams, tapes, resins, coatings, laminates and films in Italy and the Mediterranean region, taking place from October 27 to 29, 2026, at Vicenza Exhibition Center.
