28 September 2026Reducing energy consumption, improving productivity and ensuring adhesive stability at high temperatures are among the key requirements addressed by Technomelt AS 4004, a hot-melt adhesive developed by Henkel for securing clay and concrete roof tiles during transport.
Its polypropylene-based formulation enables processing at lower temperatures, potentially reducing energy consumption during production. Lower processing temperatures can also help extend the service life of application heads by reducing the thermal stress placed on production equipment.
Another benefit concerns production-line cleanliness. According to Henkel, Technomelt AS 4004 generates minimal dust during processing. The adhesive is also designed to maintain high levels of performance under demanding temperature conditions.
This is particularly relevant during summer transport. Pallets wrapped in stretch film can reach elevated temperatures, making dimensional stability an important requirement. Technomelt AS 4004 is designed to remain dimensionally stable at temperatures up to 30°C above the maximum expected transport temperature.
Faster and more consistent application
Once transport is complete, the adhesive can be peeled from painted surfaces without leaving residue, helping simplify subsequent handling operations.
Compared with manual separation methods, automated adhesive application can also make the process faster and more consistent. In tests conducted by Henkel, the solution achieved throughput of up to 140 roof tiles per minute.
The technology is therefore designed to combine product protection during handling and transport with production-line efficiency, addressing energy consumption, equipment service life and the speed and repeatability of application and removal operations.
Industry professionals will meet at ABS Europe 2026 – Adhesives Bonding & Sealants, the first event dedicated to adhesives, glues, sealants, foams, tapes, resins, coatings, laminates and films in Italy and the Mediterranean region, taking place from October 27 to 29, 2026, at Vicenza Exhibition Center.
