Adhesives and sealants: global market growing at 5.5%
23 March 2026A new milestone in the international growth strategy of Sika, one of the world’s leading players in construction and industrial chemicals. The Swiss Group has reached an agreement to acquire Akkim, a Turkish producer of adhesives and sealants with a well-established presence in emerging markets.
The transaction, expected to close in the third quarter of 2026 subject to approval by the relevant authorities, aims to strengthen Sika’s position in a segment considered strategic for the coming years.
The deal will enable Sika to expand its production capacity and improve the efficiency of its operational footprint. However, the strategic value goes beyond manufacturing: integrating Akkim’s network is expected to enhance Sika’s presence in distribution channels, retail, and e-commerce, while also creating cross-selling opportunities with other product lines, such as repair mortars and waterproofing systems.
For Sika, this move is fully aligned with its medium-term roadmap, which identifies adhesives and sealants as one of its main growth drivers.
The acquisition of Akkim is not merely an expansion in size, but a targeted operation aimed at consolidating market share and strengthening its presence in high-growth regions, within a sector that is becoming increasingly competitive and innovation-driven.
For industry professionals, the key event is ABS Europe 2026 – Adhesives Bonding & Sealants, the first exhibition dedicated to adhesives, glues, sealants, foams, tapes, resins, coatings, laminates, and films in Italy and the Mediterranean area, taking place from 27 to 29 October 2026 at Fiera di Vicenza.
