New “smart” adhesive for electronics: a breakthrough for recycling technological waste
14 July 2026In the future of the car, increasingly digital and dominated by ultra-thin displays, there is an element working behind the scenes that proves decisive: the adhesive. It is precisely in this area that Tesa, a specialist in adhesive solutions, together with Aumovio, a technology company born from Continental’s automotive division—is making a bold move with a proposal set to spark debate in the adhesives and sealants sector.
The collaboration aims to redefine the role of adhesive technologies in automotive display integration, where they already represent the dominant solution for achieving clean designs, ultra-thin bezels, and efficient assembly. But the step forward is significant: no longer just high-performance bonding, but intelligent, optimized systems that are, above all, controllably removable.
For the adhesives sector, this marks a paradigm shift. The new solution combines advanced bonding technologies with more efficient use of materials, introducing a key concept for the future of the industry: adhesion is no longer permanent, but designed to be reversible when needed. An approach that paves the way for more flexible production processes, reduced waste, and new opportunities in the context of the circular economy.
From structural bonding to programmed reversibility
At the heart of the technology is an adhesive tape applied through robotic systems, capable of ensuring immediate and structurally reliable bonding. Integration into existing production lines is seamless, but the real innovation lies in selective removability: display modules can be replaced or reworked without affecting the entire system.
A clear competitive advantage for manufacturers, but also a strong signal for the entire adhesives and sealants market, which is increasingly moving toward multifunctional solutions: high mechanical performance, ease of processing—and now—controlled disassembly.
“This partnership demonstrates how innovative materials are shaping the mobility of the future,” said David Caro, Head of Automotive at Tesa. “We offer automated bonding solutions that combine durability with intentional removability, contributing to more efficient production and longer product life cycles”.
Pavel Prouza, Head of User Experience at Aumovio, shares the same view: “The combination of high-precision application and targeted disassembly enhances the quality and robustness of production processes. We reduce waste and improve component utilization, with tangible benefits for the end customer as well.”
For the adhesives and sealants sector, the message is clear: value no longer lies solely in bond strength, but in the intelligence of its design. This evolution could redefine standards and expectations across the entire automotive supply chain.
For industry professionals, the key event is ABS Europe 2026 – Adhesives, Bonding & Sealants, the first exhibition in Italy and the Mediterranean area dedicated to adhesives, glues, sealants, foams, tapes, resins, coatings, laminates, and films, also supported by Unichim, scheduled from October 27 to 29, 2026, at Fiera di Vicenza.
