Wausau Coated Products Introduces WA-699, a New Wash-Away Adhesive for Reusable Glass Labels
12 October 2026New mechanical performance for elastic bonding: Teroson MS 940 combines high elongation and tensile strength, offering an alternative to polyurethane systems for demanding applications.
Henkel is expanding its adhesives and sealants portfolio with Teroson MS 940, a new isocyanate-free solution designed for high-performance elastic bonding in the railway and industrial sectors.
Based on an innovative polymer package, the product outperforms standard silane-modified polymer (SMP) solutions in terms of mechanical properties, particularly elongation and tensile strength. These characteristics enable manufacturers to consider replacing traditional polyurethane systems while maintaining the performance requirements of applications involving high safety factors and tightly constrained bond dimensions.
“With Teroson MS 940, we are taking elastic bonding to a new level,” says Guillaume Sandoz, Global Application Engineering Expert for the railway sector at Henkel. “The new polymer package delivers the mechanical performance required for the most demanding railway applications, while enabling manufacturers to move away from polyurethane systems. This means they no longer have to choose between an isocyanate-free formulation and the performance needed for reliable, long-lasting elastic bonds.”
Resistance to Environmental Factors and Application Versatility
Among the key benefits of Teroson MS 940 are its resistance to UV radiation, weathering and aggressive railway cleaning agents. These properties help preserve bond integrity over time, both in interior applications and in areas exposed to external environmental conditions.
The product is suitable for bonding and sealing windows, doors, frames, panels and other structural and semi-structural components in railway vehicle manufacturing. Potential applications also include body-in-white and vehicle body manufacturing, specialist transportation and general industrial assembly.
Primerless Adhesion on a Wide Range of Substrates
Another distinguishing feature is its ability to achieve primerless adhesion on a broad variety of materials and surface finishes. Compatible substrates include untreated metal sheets, electrocoat-treated surfaces, painted surfaces, glass and plastics.
Teroson MS 940 is also suitable for low-surface-energy substrates, such as anti-graffiti coatings, scratch-resistant paints and intumescent coatings, where the use of primers is often common practice. This capability can help simplify surface preparation and provide greater flexibility in manufacturing processes.
Application and Operating Conditions
Teroson MS 940 is a ready-to-use, one-component product that can be applied using a dispensing gun and cures through exposure to atmospheric moisture. When shorter process times are required, optional acceleration using Teroson MS 9372 is available.
The adhesive can be applied at temperatures ranging from +15°C to +40°C. Once cured, it is designed to operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +100°C, with short-term exposure possible up to +120°C.
With this new solution, Henkel aims to combine mechanical performance, environmental resistance and an isocyanate-free formulation, addressing the needs of manufacturers seeking alternatives to polyurethane systems for high-reliability elastic bonding applications.
Industry professionals will meet at ABS Europe 2026 – Adhesives Bonding & Sealants, the first event dedicated to adhesives, glues, sealants, foams, tapes, resins, coatings, laminates and films in Italy and the Mediterranean region, taking place from October 27 to 29, 2026, at Vicenza Exhibition Center.
